LEAGUE BASICS

SMALL SIDED GAMES will be 7 v 7 (6 field players + keeper)
10/11 players maximum per roster
Minimum of 8 league games + playoff/finals for top 4 teams

45 minute games (each half is 22 minutes)

FOR COED: Maximum of 3 men as field players 
(keeper may be male or female and does not count toward maximum or minimum).
7v7 Teams generally have 3 men + 3 women on the field + keeper (male or female).
If the goalkeeper is female you must still have 3 women playing as field players.
IE: 3 men + 3 women as field players + keeper (female)

FULL FIELD GAMES will be 11 v 11
20 players maximum per roster
Minimum of 8 total games.


11v11 Full Field is 60 minute games (each half is 30 minutes)

FOR COED: Maximum of 7 men as field players 
(keeper may be male or female and does not count toward maximum or minimum).
11v11 Teams generally have 7 men + 3 women on the field + keeper (male or female).
If the goalkeeper is female you must still have 3 women playing as field players.
IE: 7 men + 3 women as field players + keeper (female)

Games kick off 6pm - 11pm.

FEES: $1580 per 7v7 team / $2000 per 11v11 team / $150 per individual

Pitches are outdoor field turf (non grass) - turf shoes are best

You may also wear sneakers or moulded cleats (not metal).

Players should wear SHIN GUARDS.

ALL players should arrive at least 10 minutes early for games to ensure games kickoff as close to schedule as possible.

Team pinnies or t-shirts are provided with league fees.  Teams may purchase CUSTOM JERSEYS (performance style jerseys, not t-shirts) with their team name, logo, corporate logo etc... for an additional fee, and can use them for subsequent seasons and receive a "shirt recycling" discount.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.

SEASONS run back to back.  There are no set season dates.  Each season starts a week or two after the previous season finishes up. Occasionally seasons run longer due to weather cancellations. 

Generally the date that registration will open for the coming season is posted on the home page in the center article section a few weeks before the current season ends.  We also send out a league email.

The seasons begin more or less at these times:

SPRING SEASON * late March / early April

SUMMER SEASON * late June / early July

FALL SEASON * late Sept / early Oct

WINTER SEASON * early to mid January

NO REFUNDS

Once a player or team has registered / paid to play in the league, there are NO REFUNDS, 
unless all teams / divisions are full and we are unable to place a player or team in the league.

Players may sell their spot to another player. 

If we have a player on the waiting list to take the place of a player who would like to drop we will refund the original player a pro-rated rate for any games remaining minus a $15 admin fee pre-season or $20 if the season is already underway.

 TEAMS / INDIVIDUALS

• If you have a few players who want to play together – but don’t have enough to make a full team – you may register as individuals and request to be placed together - we will attempt to place you on a team together – all additional spots on the team will be filled by other individuals who have registered. 
  (It is difficult to place more than 2 or 3 players together on a team. But we will try.)

SCHEDULING

The schedules and stats for all games and teams are posted on the website.

The schedule for the first night of games will be available at least
48 hours before the first night of games.

The schedule for the second night of games will be available at least 72 hours before the second night of games.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the full season schedule will be posted within the 3rd week of games

If fields are closed due to weather - make up games may be scheduled at a different time and/or day of the week than your regular league play (this includes weekends)

Due to occasional unforeseen circumstances the schedule is subject to change after it has been posted. 

We will make every effort send out an email if there are changes made to a game within the same week. 

As a general suggestion you should check your schedule at the beginning of each week to ensure you have the most updated scheduling information.

 DIVISIONS

Some divisions are separated into Recreational and Competitive divisions. 

If there are more than 10 teams in a division, a division may be split into flights (conferences / groups) with teams playing all the teams in their flight and a number of cross play games against teams in the other flight(s). 

If there are fewer than 9 teams in a division, the Recreational and Competitive divisions may be split into flights (conferences / groups) with teams playing all the teams in their flight and a number of cross play games against teams in the other flight(s).  In this case the Semi-Final and Final games will be played among the top 4 teams in each division as separate divisions. (Top 4 Rec teams will play each other in the Semis/Finals and Top 4 Comp teams will play each other in the Semis/Finals) 

If there are 6 or fewer teams in either division, the divisions may be combined into one.

(this is often the case in the summer and winter seasons) 

WEATHER: rain or shine?          YES - we play rain or shine!     Except in the case of dangerous conditions      (lightning, hurricane, extreme flooding etc...)

You may call the WEATHER HOTLINE at 212 696 7297     IF games are cancelled an outgoing message will have information.      In the event of cancellations the hotline will be updated at least 1 hour before the first game.     The best time to check the hotline is 1 hour before your game as weather and conditions     are extremely changeable and games are not cancelled until it is extremely apparent that      fields will be unplayable at game time.        Games go forward whenever possible.      On occasion games may be cancelled on the spot if we arrive at the fields and      find they are unplayable due to flooding or dangerous conditions.     If there is no current message regarding weather on the hotline      then games will proceed as scheduled.     Make up games may be scheduled at a different time     and/or day of the week than your regular league play, including weekends.

REMINDERS for all teams/players

Games should start promptly as scheduled & we can not wait for late or missing players!

We are always on a tight schedule & games must run as scheduled! 

PLEASE stay on the sidelines and do not enter the field space until the referees tell you to do so unless it’s unquestionably clear that there is space on the pitches not being occupied by permit holders. 

The leagues who hold the permits before our games have complained about players entering the field before their games/practices are finished.

Especially the Baseball coaches who are concerned for your safety due to renegade balls played by little leaguers!

ALL TEAMS – please check the schedule, know which pitch you are playing on and set up your camp/deposit your stuff near your pitch rather than near the stairs on the south side of the complex.

We are losing a good amount of time waiting for teams to relocate
their belongings to the appropriate pitches.

PLEASE NOTE on the schedule any nights you are playing a team wearing a color similar to your own. To check what color a team wears click their team name in the standings table. If it is not on their teampage write to the league to check.

Teams should plan on bringing white shirts (or another alternative color) on a night when you are playing a team wearing a color close to your own.

PARTICIPANT WAIVER AND RELEASE: Each team member and/or participant (hereafter referred to as “Participant”) listed on the team rosters, added to the roster at a later date, or invited to play with a team in any game, hereby certifies that he/she is physically fit and in normal health and has not been otherwise informed by a physician that he/she is incapable of participation in any sport league/clinic/tournaments, including those organized by NYC Soccer Collective (hereafter referred to as NYCSC.) Each participant agrees to familiarize themselves and abide by all NYCSC rules. Each participant acknowledges that he/she is aware of the risks inherent in participation in sports (including but not limited to training, practice and competition); that sports are physical and can require considerable running, starting stopping, and physical exertion, in heat and humidity and could potentially lead to injuries including, but not limited to, overheating, dehydration, limb injuries, and possible permanent disability and death. Each participant agrees to assume any risks and to waive any and all rights to claim for injuries, loss or damages arising out of his/her participation in NYCSC. Each participant is responsible for conducting himself/herself safely and at a level consistent with his/her skill. Each participant further certifies that he/she maintains adequate health insurance to cover any injuries occurring as a result of participation in NYCSC. 

Each participant who registers and/or plays in any capacity in this league, 
acknowledges understanding and reading of this waiver in full.

• Teams may have a MAXIMUM of 3 men on the field as field players.
  ("field players" excludes the goalkeeper).
  You may not play with more than 3 men on the field as field players under any circumstances.
  
  If you have a male goalkeeper you may have 3 men on the field + 1 goalkeeper
  If you have a female goalkeeper you may have 3 men on the field + 1 goalkeeper

• Generally you’ll have 3 women on the field * however there is no maximum of women allowed.

• You may play with more than 3 women. You may also play with less than 3 women but you may not have more than 3 men on the field as field players under any circumstances * so if you play with less than 3 women your team will play down players.

• Keeper may be male or female and does not count toward MAXIMUM or MINIMUM gender restrictions.
  (ie: if the keeper is female, teams still may not have more than 3 men playing on the field as field players)
  

v   The goalkeeper may not pick up or touch with his/her hands any ball that is thrown to him via a throw in. The goalie may use his/her feet, but may not pick the ball up with his/her hands.       

 

v   "Possession", in terms of a goalie having control and possession of the ball is defined as the goalie having a single finger on the ball. If the goalie is touching the ball it is out of play, and you should not challenge for it.

DISCIPLINE

v Two Yellow Cards in one game = Red Card, Ejection from game

v Foul and Abusive Language Against Opponent or Referee = Red Card, Ejection from game

v Serious Foul or Dangerous Play = Red Card, Ejection from game and field area
 

v      Violent Conduct (Directed at Anyone) =

Red Card, Ejection from game and field area + One (1) Game suspension.

v      Three (3) YELLOW cards by an individual player over a full season = One (1) Game suspension

v      Two (2) RED cards in a season = suspension for the balance of the season

v If a RED carded player does not sit out their One (1) Game of play, the red carded player will receive a second red card AND will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

v      Any team which causes a game to be abandoned will forfeit the game.

v      If a referee abandons a game due to extreme misconduct on the part of one team or fans clearly associated with one team, that team will forfeit the game.

 

FIGHTS: Fighting is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by NYC Soccer Collective. Any players involved in a fight will be immediately red-carded and will be suspended from the league at minimum Two (2) Seasons – and possibly for longer and/or life at the discretion of the league. If more than two players are involved in a fight, the game will be ended, both teams will record a loss, and any/all players involved will receive a red card and suspension.

 

FAIR PLAY: Players and spectators are expected to behave in a sportsmanlike manner. Unsportsmanlike behavior on or off the field by players, fans, or coaches can result in red cards for the offending player or the captain of the associated team.

 

YELLOW CARD: A player receiving a yellow card must leave the field of play. Any Yellow carded player shall return after 2 minutes with the referee’s permission. The team plays down a player during these 2 minutes.

 

RED CARD: Any individual receiving a red card must leave the game immediately after being issued the red card. If the red card is issued due to violence the player must leave the field area / courtyard immediately. The team may not replace the red-carded player in the game and must play short for the remainder of the game.

 

Yes, this league has highly competitive games each week - but please play clean with your opponents - being the champions feels oh so good -  but it certainly isn’t worth potential injuries to players which may result in a lifetime of knee problems - or a player appearing at work with a broken arm or black eye (…or what have you).

FORFEITS

Teams must do everything possible to field a team.  Alert the league if you're short players for a game and we'll try to help you.  We advise showing up if you have any # of players available. 

Teams that do not alert the league by 4:30pm of a forfeit will not be allowed to re-register for upcoming seasons without paying a "forfeit bond" equal to $100 for each forfeit.

Forfeits are 5-0 to the winner.  

Teams which do not alert the league and are "no shows" lose 2 points in the standings. 

Teams with excessive forfeits will not be allowed to register for future seasons.

 RINGERS

Ooooh this is the sticky one…

 

 

I think perhaps people are getting confused re: the definition of ringers vs. subs.

 

 

RINGER - any player who is not on your official roster who comes in to

 

play for your team when you are going to be short of players.

 

 

SUBSTITUTE - any player (roster or ringer) who is not in the field of play but

 

waiting on the sidelines to go in for another player when they come off the field.

 

REGARDING RINGERS

 

We prefer that you bring in ringers that you know from other leagues and teams or who are friends of players on your team.

 

Often players picked up last minute at the fields do not know or understand the rules and nature of COED soccer and play too aggressively.  If you do pick up an a player at the field that you do not know, please be sure to brief them on the basic rules. (no offsides, no sliding, no dangerous play etc.)

 

TEAMS are responsible for making sure any/all ringers have signed a waiver and are completely aware of all rules and policies of the league.

 

NYC Soccer Collective has the right to refuse play to any ringer, brought in by any team, that is not registered in the league.

 

COMPETITIVE DIVISION Ringer Rule 

 

*YOU MAY bring in RINGERS (outside players) when your team is going to be short.

 

BUT you may only use enough ringers to enable your team to play with a full squad of 7 + 1 substitute and no more.

 

This means you may not have more than 8 players involved/playing in a game if you have any ringers (players who are not on your official roster) involved.

 

For one thing, it simply is not fair for paying/registered players to be sitting out, for any time at all if they don’t wish to,  if there are ringers playing on the fields.

 

EXAMPLE

 

v If you have 4 of your registered players available for a game * you may bring 4 ringers in. 

 

v If you have 5 of your registered players available for a game * you may bring 3 ringers in. 

 

v If you have 6 of your registered players available * you may bring 2 ringers in. 

 

v If you have 7 registered players available * you may bring 1 ringer in.

 

v If you have 8+ registered players available * sorry, NO ringers may play. 

 

Get it?

 

v IF you have players who are running late:

 

* YOU MAY start short until your players arrive

In this case teammates may join the game when they arrive.

 

OR

 

* YOU MAY use ringers until late teammates arrive

 

In this case WHEN late players arrive

they can replace

the ringers immediately

and the ringers they replace may not play

in the duration of the game

 

If players show up into the second half -

of the game they may not replace ringers

THESE RULES REGARDING RINGERS / LATE PLAYERS DOES NOT APPLY IF THE TEAM IS NOT AT THE 8 MAXIMUM PLAYERS FOR THE GAME.  IF A TEAM IS PLAYING WITH 7 PLAYERS (including ringers) / NO SUBS - THE LATE PLAYER WILL BE CONSIDERED THE 8th PLAYER, DOES NOT NEED TO REPLACE THE RINGER and CAN ENTER THE GAME AT ANY TIME.

If you know you’re going to be short players and need a ringer - or lose a player. Let us know.

 

We often have a list of players who couldn’t fit on teams who would be happy to sub in for games.

 

RECREATIONAL DIVISION Ringer Rule 

 

v   You may bring in ringers (outside players) when your team is going to be short. 

 

     BUT you may not have more than 10 players playing in a game.

    (11 players are allowed if there are at least 5 women playing - this means 3 women on the field + 2 female subs)

 

v ALL RINGERS / OUTSIDE PLAYERS must sign and bring a waiver / release form before they play.

 

v    DURING THE FINALS: RECREATIONAL division also plays by the COMPETITIVE RINGER rule of 8 maximum players in the game if using ANY ringers.   However, REC teams may play with 9 maximum players in the finals to allow 1 MALE sub and 1 FEMALE sub
(you can not have 2 male subs or 2 female subs)

IF ANY RINGER / MAXIMUM PLAYER RULES ARE BROKEN THE TEAM WILL HAVE GOALS TAKEN AWAY FROM THE SCORE for each extra player OR the team will lose by forfeit, decision is at the discretion of the league and/or referee.

ADD/DROP

 

If someone on your team has paid and drops out completely (meaning they will not play again in the season) – someone may permanently take their place on the roster for the remainder of the season.  A player who has been dropped from the roster may not be added back to the roster in the same season.

 

For any ADD / DROPS - send an email to ADDdrop@nycsoccercollective.net and update your online roster.

YOU MUST send an email plus ADD / DROP players on your online roster 
24 hours prior to the first game the switch takes place.

YOUR roster is frozen the day prior to your final league game of the season
(your team’s last game of regular league play before any playoffs, semi-finals, finals)

ALL REPLACEMENTS must bring / sign a waiver / release form before they play.

COLORS/SHIRTS
ALL TEAMS MUST WEAR THEIR OFFICIAL LEAGUE SHIRTS.

If a player doesn’t have their official NYC Soccer Collective shirt
they may wear a shirt or pinnie that is the CORRECT color for the team.

If there is any writing on it of any kind, it must be worn inside out. 

 

If the color is off and the other team objects - you will have to get a CORRECT color shirt – or the player must leave the field.

 

Be sure to check the schedule in advance.
If there is a team with a jersey color that is close to your team’s color you should plan to bring white shirts for that game date.  If you’re not aware of which teams have colors close to your own, write and ask. 

 

Ø Many teams colors are posted on their teampages.  Click on the team name in the schedule or standings.

 

Many players are very good at taking in the whole field at once and spotting teammates or opposition out of the corner of their field of vision by uniform color. This is part of the skill of the game.  

 

You are taking an advantage and making it more difficult for the other team if your team is not in uniform colors.

BALLS

Please do not remove balls from the ball bag. These are game balls and not for warming up.
Teams must bring their own balls for warm up purposes. 
We just lose too many balls each season to let balls out before the games.

PLAYOFF / FINALS

Playoff Finals will be played amongst the top 4 teams in each division. 

1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs. 3rd in the Semi-Finals with the winners of the semifinals playing a final game directly following the semi-finals. 

When there are 2 groups in a division, the top two teams in each group will play each other in the playoff/finals.
Group A 1st place vs. Group B 2nd place / Group B 1st place vs. Group A 2nd place -- the winners of the semifinals playing a final game directly following the semi-finals. 

 

YOUR roster is frozen the day prior to your final league game of the season 
(your team’s last game of regular league play before any playoffs, semi-finals, finals)

 CAPTAINS and Co-Captains

v  Captains and Co-Captains are responsible for making sure the players on their team

    understand and are familiar with the rules. 
 

v  On the first night they are responsible for getting all players to sign the team waiver/release form.

v  Finding out in advance if all your players are available for games and if you will require ringers to have a full squad.

 

v   Making sure your roster is up to date and filling out an ADD / DROP form any time a player is added or dropped to/from the roster.

v   Checking the schedule and informing your team of the opponent, Time/Date, and field locations of your games.
 

v    Making sure that your team sets up next to the field you are scheduled to play on.

v    Making sure your team is ready for kickoff at game time.

v    Distributing shirts and making sure all teammates and ringers are wearing the correct color.

v   If your team is scheduled to play a team of a similar color making sure teammates bring white shirts to play in. 
 

v Reporting game scores and team scorers each week.

v   Making sure any ringers who are not registered in the league sign waiver forms and are aware of, understand and participate by all league rules and regulations.

• Making sure your roster is up to date and making an ADD / DROP any time a player is added or dropped to/from the roster.  (see ADD / DROP section in LEAGUE RULES)
  
  
• Checking the schedule and informing your team of the opponent, Time/Date, and field locations of your games.
  
  
• Making sure that your team sets up next to the field you are scheduled to play on.
  
  
• Making sure your team is ready for kickoff at game time.
  
  
• Distributing shirts and making sure all teammates and ringers are wearing the correct color.
  
  
• If your team is scheduled to play a team of a similar color making sure teammates bring white shirts to play in. (some colors are listed on the team pages) if not, feel free to email the league. 
  
  
• Reporting game scores and team scorers each week. 
  
  
• Making sure your team members are aware of, understand and participate by all league rules and regulations. 

• Making sure any ringers who are not registered in the league sign waiver forms and are aware of, understand and participate by all league rules and regulations. 

For an additional $300 per team you will receive 10 jerseys (rather than pinnies or T-shirts)
with CORPORATE SPONSOR or TEAM NAME / LOGO sublimated into the fabric

(takes 5 weeks from time of payment)

You may use these jerseys for future seasons and receive a "shirt recycling bonus refund".
Return and reuse 10 jerseys in a future season and you will receive $100 recycling refund for your team. 

Additional / future shirt orders after the first 10 may be made in quantities of 6+ for $38 per jersey.
